Once upon a time in a country where everyone had silly names (and the King had the silliest of all) there lived a miller by the name of Eyebrow Snailsocks. Eyebrow has a problem – he can't stop boasting about his daughter and soon the King decides to find out the truth. So one night, the miller's daughter finds herself locked in a room full of spaghetti which she must knit into vests by sunrise or else...!
Cinderboy needs some magical help from the TV Godmother. How else will he get to the big Cup Final? Want to know how to get boys reading? Here's the answer!
This is a great story to encourage reluctant boys back into enjoying books. The football theme carries the traditional story away from fairies and princesses and is jam packed with humour aimed directly at children. As a teacher I can say this is one of the most read books in my class. They love it!
The Emperor gets everyone's knickers in a twist when he decides to wear his marvellous new magic pants in public. The Seriously silly Stories are a sure way to get even the most reluctant readers begging for more.
Winner of the Nestle Smarties Gold Award, this hilarious tale will tickle even the most reluctant readers. The ugly old Mean Queen is jealous of Snow White, because she has a pretty little nose and wants to be a pop star. The Mean Queen tries to stop Snow White's dream coming true, but will she be a match for seven singing aliens?
“A seriously silly retelling of the story in which Snow White is a wannabe pop star who has to defeat the mean queen, who was once the lead singer with The Wonderful Witched Witches. Parents may sigh, but children find it hilarious. Great pictures.”
Next ›Like, HUFF and PUFF, man! Eco-Wolf knows it's important to give Mother Nature RESPECT. Unlike the three big bad pigs, and their pesky polluting plans... The ultimate eco-tale for kids.
A brilliant, laugh out loud story.
One teeny-tiny turnip makes a rather measly meal for the greedy farmer. He wants to munch on a much bigger lunch...
As a teacher of 7 & 8 year olds, I have to write to say that the Seriously Silly Stories have been THE favourite of my class this year. They were so inspired as to persuade me to adapt a story, 'Snow White and the Seven Aliens' for a school assembly last month. It was a terrific hit with the rest of the schooll. We have read the stories several times and enjoy both the humour and morality of some of the tales. We have even discussed some of the relevant topics in Circle Time during our PSHE lessons. I have recommended the book to several parents and other staff. A definite hit, I will be using it again with my new class in September
Daft Jack is such a silly-billy. Who else would swap a cow for some baked beans – and think it's his lucky day?
Daft Jack and his mother lived under a cow in a field: 'His mum slept at the front end . . . and Jack slept at the udder end.' In this side-splitting tale we learn how Jack and his mother swap their exclusive milk diet for one of baked beans, how Jack builds his beanstack and weans the giant from his exclusive diet of children. The liberties taken with the stories and their general silliness should seduce even the most reluctant readers over seven. The text is never overwhelming thanks to Arthur Robins' black and white cartoony illustrations which are adult in style with action and humour aplenty and were clearly executed with much enjoyment. This excellent production should run and run
The Mayor of Hamstring is the bossiest man in the world. He loves making up rules and he's banned chocolate, chattering, even CHIPS! The children are FED UP. They want FUN and FRIED FOOD. And that's where the Fried Piper comes in...
Get the whole class giggling with cheeky comic retellings of favourite fairy tales. From Eco-Wolf and the Three Pigs to Snow White and the Seven Aliens, they’re the greatest stories ever told – with an irresistible pinch of fun! Popular, subversive, irreverent and funny, they’ll have the whole class chuckling and thinking. When children’s stories get this good, you just can’t go wrong!
The Big Bad Girl is always teasing Little Wolfie. She thinks her naughty tricks are funny – but who's going to get the last laugh?
From the opening sentence we knew that this was going to be a great read. The characters really came alive in our imagination and we lived through the action with them, cheering them on (or hissing) at every turn. This is a book for any child who enjoys a good story, well told and with brilliant one-liners! It also appeals to the child in the (much) older reader. The plot is deliciously reworked with twists to keep even those of us who were heard to say that 'fairy tales are babyish' engrossed to the end. We are now in hot pursuit of others in the series.
Ghostyshocks is as jittery as a jellyfish when she gets lost in the forest – and has to go to the hairy, scary bears' house for help.
brilliant line drawings and speech bubbles add to the hilarity of this alternative retellling of 'Goldilocks and the three bears'
